My computer halts on a blue screen with white text. I can not get to windows in Safe or Normal Mode and Last known good configuration fails also.

This problem occurs when the computer is shut off improperly or a program fails causing the comptuer to crash.

To bring your system back to functional status....

1. Locate your Windows CD.

2. Insert the CD in your CD/DVD Drive

3. Boot the computer. - Please note that you will need to make sure that your computer's BIOS has been setup to boot from the CD Rom. Many machines come setup this way from the factory. If, when you boot the system, you find yourself back at the falure screens you will need to change the BIOS to boot the CD/DVD Rom. You will need to consult your system manual for information on how to perform this change.

4. Once the Windows CD Boots you will select the option to activate the repair console. Select R to enter the repair console.

5. The next step is to select the windows installation you wish to repair. For most systems this will be the number 1. Type in 1 and hit enter.

6. At this point you will have a command promt. Type chkdsk /p then hit enter.

*** If you believe that there is a more serious problem with the drive you can use the /r option. This will take a little longer.

Allow the computer to perform the entire repair and then reboot the machine. You should now be able to log into windows.
