My Wireless Network will not connect. What should I try? Wireless Networks can fail for many different reasons. Here are some suggestions to get you connected again. If you can see the network you wish to connect to on your View of available wireless connections, go to step 1. If you can NOT see the network you wish to connect to on your View of available wireless connections, go to step 2. STEP 1. Since you can see the networks on your available network list, the wireless card in your computer is working so your problem lies most likely with an encryption key issue. 1. Check the description of the wireless network you are attempting to connect to. If the network description says that there is security enabled then you will need to connect using the proper key. Please note that TKIP PSK works best only after installing Windows XP Service Pack 2 on your computer. 2. Double Click on the connection you wish to connect to. A window will appear asking you for the security code. You will have to type this code in twice. Once you done so you can then proceed to connect to the wireless network. 3. If your computer fails to connect then check your code. Contact your network administrator if your code does not work. STEP 2. Since you can not see the network you wish to connect to you will have to troubleshoot why. First make sure that the network adaptor is active on your laptop or desktop. Some Laptops have a Function Key combination that activates the wireless, others simply have a switch. If your laptop has a removable card make sure it is plugged in and that the adaptor is functioning. Second, if you still can not see the wireless network, check the router, (if you have access to it.) Make sure that the router is transmitting. You can use another wireless computer to verify this. Third. If it still does not work Right Click on the My Computer Icon. Click properties and then Hardware. Then click the Devices button. Scroll down to the wireless network adaptor. Make sure it does not have a Red X or a Yellow sign next to it. If so there is a problem with the driver. Reinstall or update your driver to resolve the issue.
